app store - What is Apple's policy with regards to disabling old versions of an application? -
In ITunesConnect my employer has a free iOS app that was originally released a few years ago and has received many updates over time. They now want to stop supporting earlier versions of the app (1.x) and disable these older versions of the app.
My questions are:
- Do we prevent users from re-installing older versions of the app? if so, how?
- How can I disable / remove older versions of the app in iTunesConnect?
- What is Apple's policy about disabling / deleting older versions of the application?
I am not an iOS developer and I am unfamiliar with the entire Apple Application Development process. I have searched the web as well as the Apple Developer Center and I have read through the terms and conditions of the Apple Developer Program, but I have not been able to answer any of my questions.
I have managed to get information about removing an application from a sale but it only removes the whole application instead of specific versions. ()
David Smith's article on the paid upgrade mentions the ability to provide fixes for previous versions, if they are not removed from iTunesConnect when I log in to iTunesConnect, So I only look at the current version of the app, so I believe that earlier versions have already been deleted, however, I would like to confirm that users can not download older versions of the app anymore. E
This article mentions users being able to download older versions of apps from iCloud () - can we stop it? One option would be to mark the version as "legal issue", but what is the reason? And if I can not see the app in iTunes, how can I do it?
I have found a post to be forced to upgrade the user every time a new version is released, but it does not answer my questions. We want users to upgrade But we do not want to bind it on the basis of the program ()
I have also come to know how to return the previous versions of the app in the App Store but again, it is not soLand which we want to. We want to disable older versions of the app but leave the most recent versions alone.
Before the Flame War begins:
- Users who can not update the app are able to use the mobile website for the latest version of the app for any reason . The website has the exact same functionality.
- Keeping the answers in mind whether a legacy version should be maintained / should not be maintained, instead should be placed on the answer-topic.
Thank you in advance :)
Users generally only Download the latest version of an application I think they can take some measurements but in general, only the latest version is available to users through normal means.
If, however, you should absolutely stop the release of the old version, so that you can do this while submitting a new update. Immediately after you say "Ready to Prepare" for you, you will be asked this question whether the update was for 'legal reason', if you click Yes, you have the opportunity to disable an earlier version of the app from download Will go
As the apple's policy on this ... I do not know, but I can not think about any policy for which you will need to support the earlier versions going forward.
